An encouraging beginning has been made in the case of the natural sciences and a similar success may await the studies which have to do with the critical estimate of man's complicated nature his fundamental impulsestofrand resources the needless and fatal repressionswhich these have suffered through the ignorance of the past and the discovery ofTHE STUDENT TO THE TEACHER intried ways of enrich [...] To think is the most universal and the most important occupation of man Then why should the schoomasters be warned that they " should teach the pupils to think ?" It is because of the present-day exaggerated importance attached to the passing of the examinations which consists in " mugging up " the dictated notes and vomiting them out in the answer papers with a view to secure at least 35 per [...] The exploration is the reasoning process and the discovery is the inference or knowledge which integrates the facts of the situation. [...] To improve this power in the individual is to develop the spirit of observtion to stimulate the curiosity tendency and to train the eye the year and the senses to grasp and realise for himself what goes on around him. [...] Life is a series of adjusting_ activities ; adjustment is the doing of the right thing under the circumstances ; and this depends on the understanding of the situation and getting an insight into the solution—which are the highlights of the process of thinking.
