Even in the midst of depressing and difficult circumstances it is a great advantage for a teacher to have faith enthusiasm and a clear vision which can only come to him from the experience and the conviction that the work that he is doing is of crucial significance that its traditions go back to the dawn of civilization that the best spirits of all the ages have been his co-workers and that eve [...] Every agency of social education—the press the film the theatre the radio the temple and the mosque—has to be harnessed to the task of creating good citizens. [...] The great sweep of history should be presented not in terms of wars and treaties or of kings and generals but in terms of the life of the common man—the development of his culture and the contribtion made by men of genius in every branch of life irrespective of religion and community. [...] The current streams of political and social ideas acceptable to the state are apt to colour the aims of education the content of the curriculum the selection of text-books and last but not the least the personality of the teacher himself. [...] If he believes in democracy and is true to the profession he has chosen he must make use of these literary and social subjects and in fact all the subjects and activities of the curriculum to re-educate the minds and emotions of the children entrusted to his charge.
