This was found to be the case and in calculating the amount of Jadoo in 100 g. of solution the weight of the residue was multiplied by the factor 100 f5r 27. [...] With regard to the wax content preliminary experiments were made in the light of the results recorded for extraction with trichloroethylene in order to arrive at a suitable choice of solvent which would give the maximum extraction of waxy material from the grey cloth with the least loss of tensile strength. [...] Ethylene dichloride DO -alcohol 0'781 Alcohol + benzene 0.687 50 Alcohol + petroleum — benzine (I. p. 801 0.655 16 As the strengths of all the extracted samples as well as of the grey were within the limits of experimental error and the maximum extraction was in the case of a mixture of ethylene dichloride and alcohol this was employed for the extractions recorded in Table XIV. [...] The wax content was the least in the case of the cloth boiled with caustic soda perborate and Jadoo ; the perborate appeared to be the significant addition as other mixtures of caustic soda and Jadoo gave higher figures for the wax content. [...] "Degrees of gravity lost" during any interval of time means the difference between the specific gravity values at the beginning and end of this interval the difference being expressed in units in the third place of decimals.
