1936

The preparation of natural and more particularly synthetic substances for the the treatment of diseases and the study of their mode of action are now covered under the term chemotherapy. [...] The object of the editorial s to draw attention to the great demand for chemical engineers in the rapidly expari ing Indian chemical industries and to the need for undertaking the production of every type of chemical plant in the country as early as possible. [...] With smaller quantities however it was impossible to get an even distribution of the salt over the surface of the rice with the result that all the colonies developed over a small area and when the sample happened to contain a heavy infestation of the bacteria it was impossible to count the colonies. [...] In the first test counts were made on the 15th and again on the 21st day after inoculation in the second and third tests on the 14th and 22nd day and in the fourth test on the 15th and 22nd days. [...] Two of the important points in the fourth test were to determine (1) whether the effects of denaturation of the salt were due to the dyestuff or the kerosene and (a) whether Khewra salt as freshly mined contains bacteria.
