[...] The conquest of the weakness of the flesh expresses itself in the renunciation of clothing and a rigid clinging to the austerities of ascetic life. [...] The Jaina Achäryas were skilled in the contemplations of the Jaina faith and the twelve bhavanas.2 The Jaina Ächarya was expected with the perpetual idea of the transitoriness of the world and the helplessness of man before inexorable Death to subdue greed and egoism and purify his intellect.
