The Quarterly Journal of the Mythic Society (New Series) October 1933

1933

In conclusion we beg to express our deep gratitude to His Highness the Maharaja of Mysore His Highness the Yuvaraja the Hon'ble the British Resident in Mysore the Government of Mysore and the Government of India for their continued and generous and sympathetic support of the Mythic Society. [...] The temples and Mathas of the time in Seringpatam are another proof of the degree of tolerance in the religion of the king and the people. [...] He was solicitous for the Jainas as is evident from 01062 grant of the village of Madani for daily distribution of food to the Jaina Sanyasis of the Ana sale of Chärularti Panditachärva of Sravana.belagola and from the163 grant of permission to the Jainas to conduct worship and provide for the ceremony of Ashtanik a in the temple of Jd'ihara at Seringapatam. [...] The conquest of the weakness of the flesh expresses itself in the renunciation of clothing and a rigid clinging to the austerities of ascetic life. [...] The Jaina Achäryas were skilled in the contemplations of the Jaina faith and the twelve bhavanas.2 The Jaina Ächarya was expected with the perpetual idea of the transitoriness of the world and the helplessness of man before inexorable Death to subdue greed and egoism and purify his intellect.
