The test has thus proved to be of great value n the serum diagnosis of kala-azar and it is the test of choice for the early stages of the disease when all other serum tests are negative. [...] Like the Wassermann reation the complement fixation test belongs to the 'nospecific' type of complement fixation reactions; but It has proved to be very 'specific' for kala-azar in view of the fact that the test is negative in all conditions likely to be considered in the diagnosis of kala-azar with the exception of a small proportion cf cases of tuberculosis that can be distinguished clinic [...] Only at the conclusion of the full period cf experiments the identity of the person and that of the preparations were disclosed. [...] On the 3rd day the wound was opened up for removal of the rubber drainages but we observed extensive infec'ion of the wound with areas of blackening due to ischxmic ganrene; the devitalised and the lacerated sole of the foot had peeled off and all the sutures were removed to release temien As the gangrene was spreading amputation of the right foot was suggested but owing to the very low condit [...] Further the absorption of the drug is so rapid from the upper parts of the intestine that the organisms in the lower reaches of the bowel remain viable and later invade the blood stream on discontinuing the drug.
