5 THE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE CESS ACT 1940 THE passing of the Agricultural Produce Cess Bill which received the assent of the Governor-General on April 15 MO marks a definite stage in the development of the Imperial Council of Agricultural Research. [...] In the preface it is stated that ' the object of this book is to investigate by means of historical researches by the colletion and collation of large numbers of cotemporary cases by the carrying out of eperiments and by a discussion of the results thus obtained the claims made on behalf of water-divining '. This is an admirable statment of scientific method applied to an obcur [...] all the Indian producers of sulphate of ammonia as a by-product are members of the British Sulphate of Ammonia Federation and the price of the commodity as sold in India is therefore controlled by the Federation. [...] Potash salts are present among the beds of rock salt in the Salt Range of the Punjab and the question of their exploitation for manurial purposes was considered by the members of the Government Salt Department and the Geological Survey of India but the prospects were thought to be highly doubtful. [...] A good deal of work has been published in connexion with the cultivation of the mango in the past and The Book of the Mango written by Dr W. Burns the then Economic Botanist to the Government of Bombay in collabortion with Mr.
