While the Aulbala Siwaliks are being literally washed away on account of the disappearance of plant cover the well-preserved forests of the Doon Siwaliks have saved the mountains as well as the fields of the cultivators in the Doon valley. [...] In the conditions which prevailed in the last phases of the Sikh rule and the early days of British occupation of the Punjab the hillmen of the Siwalilcs started cutting the forest trees for their domestic use. [...] If the Board accepts the scheme it is published iii the official gazette in the village or villages covered by the scheme in the taluka or ma/al and in the district heaquarters in which the areas lie. [...] (g) 011 the completion of a scheme the executive officer prepares a statement with a. map detailing the work done with cost thereof the total amount to be recovered from the owners the general rate per annum or per rupee of recovery the period of recovery the person or class of persons responsible for maitenance and repair of the work and a list of survey numbers or sub-divisions from th [...] The functional type of organization is carried down through the various levels of authority from the Government to the Director of Agrculture to the Land Improvement Officer to Regional Officers to the Area Officers and down to the work units in the fields.
