The great lack is the absence of any voice in the control of direction of the concern to which most of the waking hours of the day are given. [...] The a cession of Julian the Apostate ( 361-363) to the throne of the empire witnessed paradoxically enough the return of the ditracted Ch istian East to the orthodoxy of Rome and Nicea Pope St. [...] The concord between the Pope and the emperors rendered it possible for the former to complete the work of Nicea by condemning the heresy of Macedonius — denial of the divinity of the Holy Ghost -- that as the logical outcome of Arianism had been gaining ground from the time when it had first arisen and had been unmasked at Athanasius' Council of Alexandria in 362. [...] He has been called the General of the Exercises the General of the Ratio Studiorum the General of the Missions. [...] For the Militant Church of Christ these were sad and stirring times culminating in the flight of the 'Pope to Gaeta under the prtection of the French flag " to spare the Roman people the eternal memory of regicide against Christ's Vicar".
