In the last issue of the "Forum " we could only hint at the interest of the great European Powers in the selection of the new Khalifa of Islam. [...] At the age of five accordingly the child is sent to the house of the teacher (guru-griha): that is the first offering and sacrifice made by the parents with a view to placing their child in the way to the repayment of the debt to the seers and sages of the race. [...] The object of the latter was the study of the Vedas which represented the source and the essence of traditional culture. [...] Under the first obligation we must live the life of the householder and propagate the stock to which we belong and preserve the contnuity of the traits of character which cont titute the special value of that stock. [...] The autumn of 1922 thus definitely marcl the end o!f the Ottoman Sultanate as it political power but in the course of its long and triumphant history the Ottoman Dynasty had to added to the Sultanate" the "Khalifate" from which the authority of all Sultanates in the Islamic world is nomnally cleriaed.
