The students coming from the countries of Europe Asia America Africa and Australasia organized Cosmopolitan Clubs for the purpose of learing the customs viewpoints and characteritics of other nationalities to remove national prejudices and to establish international friendships." [...] In Siberia in the neighbourhood of Semipalatinsk and in Japan in the island of Tezo extensive supplies of coal are found. [...] The drawing or winding of the coal from the pit bottom to the surface is done by means of (1) cages or platforms handed up by drawing ropes (2) the shaft or pit fittings (3) the drawing rope (4) the engine (5) and the surface arrangements. [...] The principal sources of danger to the collier are explosions of fire damp and the collapsing of roofs in the galleries.
