Thus it has been pointed out that in the United States balance of paments the accretions to the monetary reserves of forign countries in the past three years have not fully compensated the drain of their reserves in 1940 and 1941; on the other hand the British balance of paments has been in deficit throughout the war period despite lease-lend aid. [...] The cumulative effect of all these differences in the politico-economic set-up in the United States and in Great Britain Would niean that the difficulties of hamonizing American and British trade policies would be much greater than we could suspect in the light of the spasm of goodwill and economic liberalism generated by the Atlantic Charter. [...] From the point of view of the consumers too the proposed system would have the immense advantage' of promoting dairying in the rural areas where the most economic conditions of nrodu:Aion prevail and thereby leading to a reduction in milk prices. [...] is "one of the gravest examples of the misuse of the sterling bloc by England." Of course it is not demanded THE FAMINE COMMISSION'S REPOlT that Britain should immediately put at our disposal The second part of the Famine Commission's Rthe whole of the dollar income which we have earned port is now in the hands of the Government and is eduring the war and which has been sterlingised pecte [...] It is the purpose of the present article to examine the author's thesis in regard to the role of the village in the industrial structure and to indicate briefly some directions in which it appears to be in error.
