1946

The business of the Paris Coference was simply the fixing of the share of the 18 participants in the Conference. [...] In so far as the concentration of depsits in the hands of high income earners denotes an unequal distribution of the national income it would be offset by the fact that much the greater part of the currency is in the pc'ekets of millions of individuals of small means. [...] We also endorse the recommendations of the Export Advisory Council that at the forthcoming meeting of the United Nations Conference and at the meeting of the British Commonwealth to be held in London to consider the proposals for the expansion of world trade and' employment the delegation from India should include non-official Indian members of trade and industry in sufficient members. [...] Mr Pepperell has found that the 'present degree of efficiency of the dairy industry throughout India is the lowest in the world.' That is not strange; for as Mr Pepperall has pointed out official recognition of the importance of the problem is at such a low level that the destives of the day 1Sdustry are entrusted as a partitime occupation to the veterinary services. [...] DEVALUATION OF THE FRANC The recent devaluation of the franc has been featured prominently in the columns of the British Press and the decision of the French Government has been hailed in commercial circles as the habinger of good trade relations between England and France.
