As against this the November cyclone destroyed amost totally the standing rice crop in large parts of the south—almost the whole of the Godavari and Krishna deltas; and in the remaining part of the country the crops have failed to mature due to the almost total failure of the north-east monsoon. [...] On that occasion he invited the co-opertion of the Indian interests in the responsible task of rehabilitating the Burma rice industry and of restablishing the interests of individual firms." This plan was considered by the conference of the Rice Merchants' Associations of India Burma and Ceylon who fully endorsed its fundamental object viz the encouragement of the maximum production of [...] Spokesmen of the Conference accordingly met Mr A. M. Thomson a representative of the Agricutural Projects Board and discussed with him the psition of the Indian merchants via-vis the plans of the Board for the rehabilitation of the Burma rice industry. [...] As the Finance Member also pointed out if India ratifies the action taken by the Government in becoming a member of the Fund an amendment to the Reserve Bank Act will follow which would have the effect of altering the status of the rupee vis-a-vis the sterling. [...] This would mean the continuation of the wartime powers of raising of money by issues of shares and securities under the control of the Treasury which is provided in the first clause of the new Bill.
