Public attention is apt to centre round the political aspects of the exercise of Indonesian sqyereignty in its relations with the Dutch in the ivoiking of the democratic insttutions under the interim and the future constitution and finally the settlement of the controversy over New Guinea. [...] The integration of the hundreds of islands and the growth of the consciousness of nationhood among them must necessarily be a slow process though there is the advantage born of the fact that the islands of Java Madura and Sumatra account for over 85 per cent of the total population of the islands. [...] It emphasizes that the Government of India is willing to enter into diplomatic relations with the Government of the People's Republic of China in response to the latter's request in that behalf "on the basis of the principles of equality mtual interests and mutual respect for sovereign and terrtorial rights." The establishment of 'diplomatic reltions on the basis of this assurance floes [...] The publication at the end of the last month of the new Schedule of fees for applications for the grant of import licences thus has the double advantage of discouraging frivolous or useless applications and of making it possible for the department to pay its way. [...] the case of Hyderabad is that on the 1st of April 1950 the Government of India will take over the Managment of the currency and the last stage in the process of unifying Indian currency will thus be completed; this process which began in 1835 with the adoption of the Madras rupee will thus be completed after one hudred and fifteen years when the Osmania Sicca rupee is replaced by the securi
