The Socialist Parties of India Indonesia and Burma who have mainly taken the initiative in this matter— and have now brought together the parties of Japan and the Middle East countries—had expressed at Milan their dissatisfaction with the preoccupation of the Socalist International with the European situation without sufficient attention to the conditions in Asia. [...] THE EASThRN ECONOMIST 49 THE WORLD ABROAD THE PHILIPPINES ROUNDING UP CHINESE REDS Events in the Philippines culminating in the wholsale arrests of Chinese reds in various parts of the country at the fag-end of 1952 have given a violent shake-up and awakened the people to the magnitude of external interference in the affairs of their country. [...] They are: Chin Sang alias Chin Sen who was the SecretarGeneral of the Chinese Overseas Communist Organiztion and principal adviser to the Philippine Communist Party; Yu Lan-Chaio Chairman of the finance section of the Overseas Organization; Andres V. Chua head of the Chinese Communist Bureau in Southern Luzon and Li reported to be the Chairman of the organizational department of the Bure [...] With the arrests of the leaders and second rank workers of the two Chinese red organizations in the Philippines the authorities feel that their connection with the mainland of China has been effectually severed. [...] Under the usual practice bonds are issued against the loans that the Bank grants and these bonds are invariably in the name of the Goernment of the country in which the particular copany is located.
