As a mark of high estimate the Deputy Commissioner of Saugor presented him a pair of gold bangles on behalf of the goverment on the 15th of November 1858 and a sanad conferring the title of Rao on him on the 29th of June 1865 as a personal ditinction. [...] His Lordship was much struck with the institution and its superintendent who is really entitled to much praise not only for the time he bestows on the education of his neighbours' children but for the appropriation of a commodious part of his family residence for the accommodation of the pupils. [...] As the village Kalambhat can be traced to lie within the jurisdiction of the Savarcleth post office in the Sangameshwar tatuqa of the Ratnagiri District the remaining two villages should also lie in the same district especially when we know that Jafarabad the name of the muamilah in which were included the three villages mentioned above was the honorific title of Khed a taluga town in the Ratn [...] In the dispatch the writer again and again requests the Nawab to send the Maharaja to Tanjore immediately in order to bring about an agreement between Vijaya Raghava the Nayaka of Tanjore Tirumala the Nayaka of Madura and Rayal (sri Raiiga III) one of the later descendants of the last dynasty of Vijayanagara. [...] INFLUENCE OF SHAHAJI IN SOUTH 19 the general to send the Maharaja to Tanjore as he had 'intercourse with the Rayal and the other two rebels and as all the three voucsafe for the arrangement of the ransom if the Maharaja comes there —and gives his word on oath.
