Landholders’ Journal. December 1932

1932

The Third Round Table Conference THE third session of the Round Table Conference has complet7 discussion of the items on its agenda but that is very far from saying that it has completed the task of settling satisfactorily the prelminaries of the future constitution of India. [...] But to proceed with a task for the fulfilment of which the Goverrtnt would have to depend upon the good will of the people and alt the same time to estrange the good wishes of a party admitted to be strong and popular is to say the least of it a futile method of attempting success. [...] In the beginning of the fifteenth century Raja Ganesh the ostensible founder of the Dinajpur Raj defeated the Mussalman ruler of Gour and seized the reins of government. [...] The Indian publicists and financiers apprehended as much and have been requesting the Government of India right from the start of the abnormal drain to place an embargo on the gold exports and to purchase the gold offered for sale in the markets at a definite or the market price on Government account. [...] In spite of the challenge thrown out to it during the past fifteen months gold has still been commanding the faith and confidence of the world as the all-important measure of value and prices as the basis of currency and the means of settling the balance of international accounts.
