A perusal of these discourses shows that considerable planning and research are essential for the systematic development of the mineral wealth of India and that the equipment and staff now available with the Geological Suvey of India and with the departments of geology in the major Indian States are totally inadequate for coping with the prolems of mineral exploration and development. [...] DYESTUFF INDUSTRY IN INDIA Amopg the many developments of interest to the Chemical Industries in India that have taken place since the outbreak of war perhaps the most notable is the creation of the Dyestuffs Exploratory Committee by the Board of Scientific and Industrial Research. [...] The broad conclusions of the report are threefold : (1) The establishment of the industry providing for about 50% of the consumption of dyes in the country is praticable since this substantial part of our requirements is covered by a comparatively narrow range of 51 dyes. [...] In the words of its founder the Journal is intended to place before the scientists and the lay public the results of various researches carried on from time to time so as to stimulate both scientists and indutrialists to further research on the one hand and to the utilization of such researches on the other". [...] On the west and north-west however practcallthe entire area is sandy and salinferous unirrigated and barren the only river of any importance in that area being the Luni which eventually finds its way to the sea in the Gulf of Cinch SALT SOURCES The salt sources of Rajputana' lie in the west and although there are many places at which salt could be manufactured the only lake source
