Law therefore we must say is a historic factor in the life of a nation and which has for its ultimate object the advancement of civitsatiort and culture FroriT this point of view the value of a comparative and historicll study orthe different systems of law and their growth Ad evolution cannot he exagltrated and the service tha t has been rendered to the philosophy of law by the School of [...] Only when based on this foundation can the requirements of the law be recognised as the requirements of the advancing culture which the law is to serve and only in this way can the true aim of the law be known for what it is." After this discussion need we reiterate that the study of law apart from universal Philosophy or Theory of Life is an obsolete solecism which ought not to be adhered to an [...] Leaving.out of consideration what are known as the law of Nature meaning the rules that govern the physical world the whole body of rules regulating the life of a Hindu in relation to civil conduct as well as to the performance of religious ceremonies is included under the reneralname of Dharma. [...] the texts of the Vedas are the only revealed texts and the texts of the Sviritis are not revealed yet in theory the law contained in the texts of the SmriKrs is also treated as the revealed laro inasmuch A they are compiled from memory by sages who *ere peigctly familiar with he Vedas which were revealed to them. [...] The great Jaimini devotes an entire chapter orhis Darshana in explaining how the law contained in the unrevealed texts of the smritis must be treated burdening and his exitnation has been elaborated by the commentator Partha Sarathi Misra.7If the Smritis also contain the revealed law why then have not the very words of the original revelations that are supposed to be the foundation of the Smritis
