The Vakils’ Association of the Calcutta High Court has sent up a strong representation to the Hon’ble the Chief Justice and Judges against the new Appellate Side Rules which were brought into operation on and from the date of the re-opening of the High Court after the Long Vacation. [...] They have also directed that one of the rules which caused the greatest irritation among Vakils namely the one prohibiting the taking of pen or ink into the inspetion room shall not be enforced in the case of Vakils entering the inspection room for the inspection of records. [...] We are thoroughly in agreement with the view expressed in the Vakils' rpresentation in which they maintain " that they are entitled to the fullest confidence of the Judges in all matters affecting the adminitration of justice on the Appellate Side of the High Court and that no important changes in practice or procedure should be made without reference to the Association." There are no doub [...] In the preface to the New Edition of the Rules the justification which is put forward for the " extensive revision of the Appellate Side Rules" is that it has been necessitated by "the adoption of the method recently suggested by the Privy Council as regards the sytem of preparation of the records in Civil Appeals." What that "method" is or where it Las been suggested —whether in the judgmen [...] The fact should not be forgotten that even in the offices of the Court the work of prparation of papehooks will have to be entrusted to Vakils s why then can they not be entrusted with the same work outside the offices of the Court provided that the Court does not relax the necessary supervision over the work ? We think it was not a right.
