on his elevation tp the office of the Acting Chief Justice of Bengal the second office in this Presidency next to that of His Excellency the Governor of Bengal. [...] He had the privilege of working in the Chambers of the Hon'ble W. H. Cozens Hardy IC C. the ditinguished son of the late Master if the Rolls. [...] On that occasion the appointment was received with universal satisfaction and we have no doubt that the present elevation will evoke similar sentiments among the different branches of the profession and all sections of the public. [...] During the period extending over a decade during which His Lordship has adorned the Bench the great traditions of the Judges who have been elevated to the Bench from the Calcutta Bar have been worthily maintained by him. [...] On the whole the law relating to procedure of crimi tal trials has been reproduced in a simple and intelligible form and the student community will with its help better understand an I mare readily remember the details of the law on the subjtct.
