In this book the author has endeavoured to draw as clearly as possible the outlines of the history of the nations of India so far as it has been recovered from the ancient literature and monuments and to sketck the salient features of the chief religions and social systems which flourished during the period between the date of the Rig-veda ( about 1200 B.
