The social event of the last few weeks was the inaugurative of the monument erected on the Boulevard de Clieby to Charles Fourier the philanthropist and founder of the new society " based on the co-operation of work capital and talent. [...] The first period extends from the year 1587 to about 1893-96 which may be called the years of dramatic apprenticeship and experiment ; the second period from this date to the end of the century the period or the English historical plays and the mirthful and joyous comedies ; the third period from 16o1-16o8 the period of grave or better comedies and of the great tragedies; and the fourth from [...] The object in view is the training of the powers of observation and the devolpment of the power of hand and eye." An elaborate syllabus of studies has with this object been framed by the committee which by the way consisted with the single exception of Rai Radhika Prasanna Mukerji Bahadur of members who can hardly pretend to any intimate knowledge of the modes of life habits and aspirations [...] The over-taxing of the memory in the case of a tender child the cessation of all physical movements continually for six or seven hours at school the total neglect of the training of the powers of observation are abuses which are badly in need of reform. [...] The total absence of all literary education and of the development of the memory in the earlier stages will in view of the peculiar circumstances of the case be fraught with positive injury.
