When the grapes are about the size of a pea the bunches are exaniined and every berry tending to obstruct the development of its neighbour pr presenting the appearance of an immature development is carefully removed by a sharp 'and fine-pointed pair of scissors—that operation is called cisellement.' The removal of the leaves when they interfere with the development of the bunch is effeuilla [...] The origin of the Kshatriyas as well as of the other Hinuu castes is founded upon the following legend :—It is said that the Brahmans sprang up from the mouth of Brahma or the Creator - the Kshatriyas from His arm the Vaisyas from His thigh and the from His feet. [...] The policy or Akbar was to put the Emperor in the room of the Rana to become himself the suzerain of the Rajput league and the commander of the Rajput armies. [...] In the Himalayan provinces the activity of the Hindus led to the foundation of the Gurkha kingdom and in the south to the consolidation of the power of the Maisur state. [...] Among the articles or processes may be named the manfdeture and refining of sugar ; the tanning of hides; the manfacture of fabrics of cotton wool and silk; the preparation of 'fibres of other sorts and of tobaccos; the manufaetnre of paper pottery glass soap and candles.
