Burma Trade Journal May 1941

1941

In February the rainfall was well-distributed throughout the country and made up for the deficiency of the previous month. [...] The month of May however began with a marked thunderstorm activity in Tenasserim and Upper Burma in association with a temporary advance of the southwest monsoon in the south of the Bay of Bengal in the first week. [...] The prc-monsoon thunderstorm activity continued unabated and the monsoon became fully established in the country in the last week of the month with NoTE.—Rainfall figures given in this memorandum are based on the extended returns of all raingauge stations in Burma. [...] The rainfall was particularly heavy and continuous in the Dry Zone and caused breaches on the railway lines between Meiktila and Ingyinzu and between Taungdwingyi and Myolulin and on the PyawbwYindaw and Meiktila-Kyaukpadaung Roads. [...] The total rainfall of the month was in large excess in the Dry Zone and the Shan Plateau in slight excess in the Delta and nearly normal elsewhere.
