The purpose of this note which does not harmonise with the daily experience of the 'common man is to reassure the business community with the hope that the latter will relax their stranglehold on the economic life of the country. [...] The first is to reconcile the ecumenical liberalism which was a property not of any group of party but of the history of western Europe with the tasks imposed by the emergence of a mass technology and the obligtions of the welfare State. If to fi [...] Shortly stated the aims of the Confederation are: The establishment of a powerful and effective international organisation composed of free and democratic trade unions idependent of external domination and pledged to the task of promoting the interests of working people throughout the world and of enhancing the dignity of labour; Universal recognition and application of the right of trade un [...] The Communists are not naturally happy at this development which has deprived them of the right and the opportunity of speaking through the World Federation of Trade Unions in the name of the working class of the world.
