The Mandelic Acid Treatment of Urinary Infections The introduction of Mandelic Acid into modern therapy as a substitute for a ketogenic diet in the treatment of urinary infections is the outcome of an investigation the results of which were reported in The Lancet of May 4 1935 p. 1032. [...] Illustrative matter should not be sent in the form of unarranged drawings or photographs but be definitely arranged or allocated by the author as so many text-figures or plates as the case may be having due regard to the size and shape of the page of the Journal and the capacity of the drawings or photos for reduction. [...] Neither an elementary analysis of the proteins nor the distribution of nitrogen by the method of van Slyke can differentiate the vibrio proteins a fact which points to the conclusion that the two proteins are made up of the same constituents grouped together within the protein molecules in different ways. [...] The study of nucleic acid of vibrio proteins was primarily undertaken with a view to their classification and was limited to the examination of the pyrimidine derivatives since a complete analysis of all the constituents of the nucleic acid was difficult because of the amount of the acid available being very small. [...] The presence of cytosine and uracil and the absence of thymine in the nucleic acid of the vibrio proteins point to the conclusion that the acid has the pyrimidine constitution of a plant and not of an animal nucleic acid.
