And from that point of view with which I am sure most people will agree the distinction does not lie in the mere sufficiency or otherwise of material comforts in the superfluity or otherwise of implements or inventions —the real distinction lies in the attitude of mind in the spirit that governs the relation between man and man in the spiritual outlook that pervades the community. [...] What a splendid application of the knowledge of mathematics dynamics and mechanics I These are the qualities of supermen which stand behind the splendid achievement of engineering ; and the intrepidity and the courage of the early flying man were the qualities of heroes. [...] But the most disquieting feature of the present age is that the ideals themselves are held up to ridicule and contempt morality represented as worthy only of slaves while lust and brutality are glorified to the skies as the superb attributes of the super-man and the new God of the age is the blond beast paraded in all his triumphant nudity. [...] In Russia after the October Revolution of 1917 the theory has been that of the Dictatorship of the Proletariat and the method has been that of the Inquisition and the Star Chamber and the result has been the undisguised enslavement of the people ground to the heels. [...] The individual has to subordinate his own primitive instincts to the wider common good and to submit to the law of the community which replaces the law of the jungle.
