It witnessed the closing stages of the Great War the passing of the Empires of Germany Austria and Russia the rise of the Soviet Republic on the ashes of the dominion of the Tsars the signing of the Peace Treaties and the resurgence of New Turkey under the leadership of Mustapha Kemal. [...] True it has not solved some of the greatest problems the war has left behind—problems like the Reparations international debts the descent of Italy upon the Greek island of Corfu the problem of the Turk in Europe and that of the Dardanelles. [...] Not less significant is the work done by the League as the protector of the rights of minorities under the Minority Treaties and as the guardian of the rights of backward peoples under the mandate system for colonies and dependencies. [...] In the opinion of these men a rainbow is beautiful because the natural disposition of different colours of the rainbow side by side as found through the medium of the visual sensations generates in the human mind a feeling of pleasure and we are naturally disposed to call a rainbow beautiful ; and in forming the idea of beauty in the case of a rainbow the Socratic idea of beauty is kept in the ba [...] resulted in the destruction of the industrial life of the villagers the new civic administrative regime—the individualism emanating from the Legislator's anvil the Judge's rod and the Settlement Officer's compass"—led to the disintegration of all corporate life in rural India.
