" How was the Synoptic or Markan Jesus able to suggest the"9 impressions which the Fourth Gospel presents ? What welds them into a living unity is the Cross which as I believe can be shown to be the goal of the Jesus of the Gospels " and the starting-point of the " Christ Of experience." The value of the study of the Old Testament and especially of the "Apocalyptic Literature of the later Jews" [...] Special gatherings are held on fixed evenings througout the week at which the main purpose is not the discussion of profound questions of scholastic interest but on the contrary to pass the time in the drinking of beer and in the singing of songs in both of which accomplishments it may safely be said the German easily leads the students of the world. [...] Reading the report of the Medical Mission of the S. P. G. Society which shows the responsiveness of Indians to the care bestowed upon them I was reminded of a little pamphlet written by a learned Hindu friend of mine entitled The Heart of Hinduism." Sir Narayen Chandavarkar points out that the saints of the Bitakti school which is represented by the " Bhagavatgita " taught the doctrine of lov [...] The ribaldry of this gives place in course of time to the Realism and classicism of the philosphits and poets of the eighteenth century which again lead to the revival of Romanticism in the beginning of the nineteenth century. [...] But Washington succeeded and to-day he is called the "saviour of his country" and the " Cincinnatus of the West." In the story of "Alexander and the Robber" the latter hints how successiul' robbers earn the title of hero or conqueror while upon the heads of the unsuccessful ones are showered the epithets of brigand murderer assassin etc.
