The stars on the firmament the ripples of the waves of the ocean as they glitter like diamonds in kaledoscopic variety when the rays of the Eastern Sun are bathed in them these and many another scenery in the grand temple of Nature can alone impress on us that broad view of religion which will give the quietus to our pet theories and warring dogmas and land us safe in the heaven of Bliss drinkin [...] TIRUMALAI SRI VENKATESVARA Surcharged with the holy memory of ancient tapovanas (hermiages) vibrated with heavenly songs of the Sämaveda resounded with the ballads of the Buddhists and the Jains saturated with the great anthems of the Dravidians enlivened with the minstrels of the Charanas and above all sanctified and illumined with the blissful araties to the accompaniment of conch-shell [...] These are the creations of onthousand three hundred years ago from the third century prior to the advent of the Vikrama Era down to the zoth and the artists plunged themselves headlong into the sublimity of spiritual beauty and the perpetual regime of eternal peace and by the dint of their superhuman creative genius immortalised for ever the arts of Sculpture Architecture and Painting. [...] The cave-temple on the island of Elephanta in the vicinity of Bombay is also very famous its chief point of renown being the figures of the Hindu Trinity—Brahma Vishnu and Maheswarwhich were sculptured with the greatest skill.510 TIRUMALAI SRI VENKATESVARA The Temple of Madura The Temple and Gopuras of Madura were also constructed with the utmost zeal and highest efforts. [...] According to the Hindu texts it is 1843 and odd millions of years since the creation began for this kalpa as we are now in the seventh manvantara ; and the process of creation is according to the Darwinian process if the Darwinians will correct their congectures slightly in the light of the account given by the Hindu texts on the subject.
