The price of Indian sugar even after taking into consideration the reduction in the price of cane for the new season and the refund of excise duty and cane cess by the Government of U. P. is slightly higher. [...] The creation of the development council for the sugar industry which might be set up for the sugar industry under the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act of 1951 was he said a step in the right direction and was to be welcomed. [...] Thus due to international rationing of sulphur and shortage of dollars in India the Government of India are not able to get full supplies of sulphur to meet the requirements of the various industries in the country and have therfore been driven to the necessity of rationing sulphur for the different industries in India and to advise utmost economy in its use. [...] DISCUSSION Colour : An examination of the table indicates that the colour of the clarified juice obtained by the new prcess is very much lighter than the colour of the clarified juice of the standard sulphitation process. [...] The main features of the new process are the filtration of the juice at high alkalinity at a low temperature with the addition of precipitated calcium carbonate and neutralisation of the highly alkaline filtrate with a solution of super phophate.
