Roots as a rule do not undergo any change when entering into cojunction with suffixes ; except in the formation of the Causal Verb in which ease a long vowel is always shortened ; thus bol-and " to speak " but bul-dad " to call" ; chhor-and " to loose " but chhur-dni " to cause to loose" ; skim-anti " to turn " but ghtim-Ond " to cause to turn" ; pnet " to drink " but pi-kind " to cause [...] These are kar " do " dhar "place " ja " go " Is " take " de " give " mar " die." These roots assume a considerably different form in the formation of the past participle and past tense ; viz. [...] Others which are trasitive could however be no less easily derived in the same way by the aid of the fifth of the above-mentioned laws the " change of voice." By far the largest number of Hindi roots can be brought under one or the other of the above-mentioned classes. [...] 47 In B. this root is confounded with IISTK sweep."
