[...] By quoting the verses of the Qur'an the Traditions of the Prophet and the sayings and the practices of the four Orthodox Caliphs he establishes that a certain amount of genealogical knowledge is obligatory on every adult Muslim while an advanced study of the Arab lineage is a matter of honour to all and a far(f hifdya (a collective obligation) for some.
