The Calcutta Police Journal January 1940

1940

The Editors want to impress on all that they are in no way responsible for the opinions expressed in the different articles by their writers and that the personal opinion of a contributor is not to be regarded as the official view of the department or the office to which the writer belongs. [...] In some of the modern countries of the west and the east the same thing is done through the Press and the Propaganda Department. [...] The clack and mutter of inumerable voices muffled laughter footsteps—the clanging of the ironheels of a Sergeant dashing through the crowd to make the dooway clear the hiss and rumble of the passing trams at a distance and the hurried and feverish steps of counsels with blue gowns and black jackets—all went to make the scene more morbid than ever. [...] The importance and enormity of the case may be appreciated from the fact that the investigation in the conduct of the case in two courts extended over a year. [...] Accused persons were represented by some of the best counsels and Advocates of the Calcutta Bar and the Crown was represented by the Public Prosecutor 24-Parganas and by the Advocate-General in the Hon'ble High Court.
