AR away on the shores of the South Pacific in lands singularly blessed as to climate and fertility for the use of man the last fifty years have witnessed the prodigious development of the Colonies of Australasia giant products of the restless energy of the British race. [...] The government of each Diocese is in the hands of the Diocesan Synod which may within the limits of the Diocese exercise all such powers and make such regulations (not repugnant to any regulations of the General Synod) as may be necessary for the order and good government of the Church in each Diocese. [...] This will lead I trust to larger sympathy and more intelligent appreciation of the responsibility of every member of the Church in his relation towards the native races of the land and the burden laid upon the Church and the Divine Missions with which she is charged by the Lord of all." MADAGASCAR. [...] A. M. Hewlett thus reports on the advance of self-help in the native Church under the name of the Vadipiangonana or scheme for the endowment of the Church in Madagascar in the Antananarivo district :- "This which translated literally is The Wife of the Church ' is a sum of money collected with a view to rendering the Church in Madagascar self-supporting in the far future. [...] The city frequently marked on the maps as Mont Shobo is one of the old capitals of Burma having been the seat of the Alompaya dynasty and a large part of the city wall and the wall of the palace are still standing ; but the city generally has a very poverty-stricken appearance.
