The Textile Digest - Quarterly Journal of the Textile Association (India) July-September 1950

1950

In view of the appalling loss suffered by the workers the Mills and the country as a whole we appeal to the patriotic feelings of our mill-workers to respect the Majesty of our National Law and to command the sympathies of the great masses of consumers by returning to work immediately thus relieving the already acute cloth-shortage in our country. [...] The speed of the draw frame was then altered to the next speed and the sliver of the same group was put through in the same manner making the same alterations in the draft. [...] This is only to be expected since one of the chief functions of the draw frame is to improve the regularity of the strand of fibres and consequenly the most regular strand of fibres will produce the strongest yarn. [...] In the neutral zone the operation of reforming the ribbon of fibres by the use of a special type of quarter-turn condenser guide is effected for it will be readily perceived that after the first drafting operation the condition of the fibres demands a re-grouping but in obtaining this the parallel position of the fibres must not be disturbed. [...] An efficient mill in India can stand the trials and tribulations in the days of depression like the Himalayan Mountain in the heart of the world to tell that it is in the Mother Country of the cotton textiles and it must enjoy the privilege of a pioneer in the cotton textile trade.
