No scheme for the economic advancement of the province of Bengal can be complete without an examination of the possibilities of these credit institutions for the question of establishing new industries and the rehabilitation of the old is intimately bound up with the problem of credit facility ; and the structure of credit for the future here has to depend on co-operative societies and on these s [...] The want of organistion amongst the cultivators and the dearth of sufficiently enterprising businessmen in the mofussil towns of Bengal leave little choice to the loan offices in the matter of investment. [...] / The more important characteristics of farmers' co-operatives in New Zealand are : (i) the large scale of the plants in the dairying industry (ii) the aid which the co-operatives have received from legislation since the War intended to assist co-operative export marketing (iii) the poor development of buyers' co-opertives and (iv) the close relation between the government and the farmers' [...] Hence the larger the short loan fund at the disposal of the central bank in comparison with the total fund in the market the greater its control over the money market. The foundation of the Indian Insurance Institute marks a new epoch in the history of Insurance in India.
