After an examination of the figures relating to the production and sale of Khadder in that period the writer of the article draws the following conclusions: (1) The bulk of Khadder consumed in the country cannot be attributed to sentiment alone in favour of Khadder but largely to economic considerations also. [...] Pattabhi Seetharamayya in his article on the Economics of Khadder contrbuted to the Year-Book and Directory of Indian Co-operation 1942 says: The Economics of Khadder would be to make the poor less poor—give at least a half meal to the starving a tangoti to the naked and a thatched shed to the houseless and in one word do the largest measure of good to the largest number of people." T [...] Speaking for ourselves we feel that the spirit of the constitution seems to contemplate that the President for the time being shall be one who can participate in the activities of the International Co-operative Alliance whatever may be the political complexion or the diplomatic alignment of the Government of his country so long as that country continues to be a member of the Alliance. [...] Curiously enough the year 1929-30 which witnessed a new enthusiasm for the formation of land mortgage banks and the establishment of such banks in other parts of the country synchronised with the virtual close down of the enterprise in the Punjab which forestalled all the other provinces by a decade. [...] The work of these societies is influenced by various factors such as the energy and ability of the staff working in them the nature of the crops grown in the tract and the social and economic habits of mebers.
