[...] Though Buddhism is no longer the accepted religion of any province in British India the heartstirring teachings of the Lord have found their way into the sacred writings of the Hindus and have considerably tended to ameliorate the condition of the masses. [...] The cessation of the sacrifices and the consequent neglect of the study of the Vedic and the sacrificial literature deprived the priestly classes of all the means of livelhood. [...] This means that the story of the slaughter of the innocents will no longer be an annual sensation in the pages of the newspapers that the terrible group of ' 1).
