Share of the principal articles and countries in the export trade in 1919-20 as com [...] In India the year opened under the depressing effects of the monsoon failure and the influenza epidemic of the preceding year ; but with the removal of the war prohibitions and restrictions on commercial intercourse with enemy countries and on the export of such articles as raw jute oils and oilseeds and hides and skins accompanied by an improvement in the freight position trade boomed in spi [...] Note the increase In the shri.rr of the British eiapire the rutted States au l Java and the cieeroase in the share of Japan as compered wqk the previous year. [...] This trade was divided between the United Kingdom and the United States in the ratio of 4 to 1. Wrought tubes and pipes and fittings increased to 35 600 tons from 12 400 tons the imports from the United Kingdom and the United States being in the proportion of 2 to 5. The main sources of supply of iron and steel with the total imports from each principal country are shown in the following table [...] The chief features of the year as compared with the preceding year were :-(1) a noticeable increase in the imports of biscuits and cakes condensed and preserved milk bacon and hams cheese cocoa and chocolate ghi and canned and bottled provisions (2) a decrease in jams and jellies (3) a large increase in the share of the United Kingdom and the Straits Settlements in the total trade and (4)
