Report on the Administration of the Police in the Province of Bihar and Orissa for the year 1926

The number of true cognizable cases is the lowest on record since the province was constituted and the percentage of convictions equal to that of last year and the highest since 1916. [...] The work of the police in extinguishing fires and saving life was acknowedged by the public in Sanibalpur Saran Angul Puri Darbhanga and Ranchi in Sambalpur when a fire broke out in Gondapara the public refrained from assisting the Gondas as they are untouchable but when the Brahmin sub-inspector and his staff arrived at the scene and started operations the public joined in assisting them. [...] In Puri the public expressed their appreciation of the police arrangements during the Car festival of their treatment of pilgrims of the work of the sea beach patrol and of the measures adopted to deal with the cocaine evil the panda nuisance and a threatened cholera epidemic ; also of the action of Mr. [...] The police of Sahebgunj and Rajmahal in the Santal Parganas rescued the occupants of a boat which capsized in the Ganges and in the latter case successfully applied artificial respiration. [...] A number of forged 5-rupee notes of the series GC-46 appeared in Shahabad and as a result of joint enquiries by officers of the Bihar and United Provinces Criminal Investigation Departments the forgers were discovered in Ballia in the United Provinces.
