Government of India Finance and Commerce Department Financial Statement for 1902-03

1902

Government of India in India and in England. 76-77 II.—General Statement of the Receipts and Disbursements of the Government of India in India and in England. A.—Statement of the Revenue of India in India and in England. 80-81 B —Statement of the Expenditure charged to the Revenues of India in India and in England... '-. [...] The very large increase in Customs Revenue both as compared with the Original Estimate and with the returns of the preceding year is one of the most satisfactory features of the results we are now considering. [...] Finally we have decided on the abolition of the Pandhri tax in the Central Provinces at a cost of about R 70 000 and on the reduction of the Patwari rate in Ajmere from to to 61 per cent on the Land Revenue. [...] Having for the time at least disposed of the question of the foundation of a Central Bank we have now to turn our attention to that of the conditions of the relations ;between Government and the Presidency Banks. [...] As the result of correspondence between Government and the Banks I think that the question has now been sufficiently advanced to render desirable a verbal interchange of views between the officials of the Government of India and the represenatives of the Banks and I hope that as a result of such verbal discussion we may arrive t reasonable and satisfactory decisions.
