for the execution of the work comprising the scheme and in doing so to examine in consultation with the Chief Engineer Calcutta Improvement Trust the advisability of stopping the extension of the Dharamtalla Street sewer at a point west of the railway line and the feasibility of draining the area east of the railway line by means of an independent main sewer discharging at the Topsia Pumping Sta [...] The silting of the Bidyadhari River has added to the complexity of the situation while the amalgamation of Cossipore-Chitpur Maniktolla and Garden Reach has thrown a new responsibility on the Corporation of having to proN.7ide for the disposal of the sewage and storm water from these areas. [...] 4. Meanwhile the continued decay of the Bidyadhari River the diappointing results of the.dredging operations of the Irrigation Department in 1922-1923 the suggestion for the construction of a spill reservoir as a means of resuscitating the river and the ultimate disclaimer by Government cosequent on the refusal of the Legislative Council to vote the necessary funds—of all responsibility in [...] for the various works comprised in the scheme and they have desired him to consider in cosultation with the Chief Engineer of the Calcutta Improvement Trust the advisability of stopping the extension of the Dhurrumtolla Street sewer at a Point west of the railway and the feasibility of draining the area east of the railway by means of an independent main sewer discharging at the Topsia Pump [...] As to the expenses of the proposed Committee it was aggreed that the proportion of the cost to be borne by the Corporation and Government should be on the same basis as that of the Bidyadhari Dredging Scheme 1922-1923 and 1923-192 4 At the suggestion of the Corporation members it was also agreed that the costs of the scheme as regards outfall should be borne in the same proportion.
