This work has absorbed a very large proportion of the working capacity of tho staff and has constituted in fact the bulk of the routine work During the last two quarters of the year more prominence has been given to the classifying of the bacteria found in drinking-water according to their power of withstanding the natural purifying agencies of sunlight and oxidation. [...] The occurrence of the parasite in the spleen is unusual as up till the present Coceidium bzgeminum is only known from the intestine of the dog (Raillet and Lucet). [...] Nit-yearly Chemical and Bacteriological Report on the Water Supply of the Jails in the Madras Presidency being Part I of Appendix I to the Annual Report of the King Institute of Preventive Medicine Madras for the year 1909. [...] In some of the jails I have inspected particularly in Vellore and Rajahmundry latrines and other sources of pollution of the ground exist in much too great proximity to the drinkinwater well and in all probability these constitute a regular source of pollution of the ground which pollution (having regard to the porosity of the soil) finds its way into the subsoil supply.
