The field activities of the Officer-icharge were directed while recently on deputation to the Government of the United Provinces to the carrying on of a campaign urging the real necessity of tackling the Pink Boll-worm evil in the province and the advantages which will accrue to the cotton of the province from the elimination of the Pink Boll-worms by heat-treating the seed. [...] In many cases however the fibre strength and the maturity percentage of the cotton is also determined Where the sample is sufficiently large in weight it is also spun into suitable counts the waste losses and the spinning behaviour of the cotton are carefully noted and the strength evenness and neppiness of the yarns are also determined The results of these tests are of great value to the cot [...] The governing body of the Institute is representative of the Cotton Committee and the Member-States and its President is the Agent to the Governor-General in Central India. [...] was the most effective and economical method of controlling the Pink Boll-worm an extensive scheme with the object of demonstrating on a significant commercial basis the economic advantages of the control of this pest which has had the approval of the Indian Central Cotton Committee has resulted in the placing of definite proposals before the Government of the United Provinces which are under c [...] The havoc to the cotton crop caused by the Boll-weevil in America and the Red Boll-worm in Africa and the risk to which the growers in this coutry stood exposed by the introduction of these pests through free importation of cotton and cotton seed were matters of great concern to the Committee.
