K.—Number of burglaries and thefts and the percentage of abstention from enquiry together with the result of bad [...] The increase was chiefly due to the strengthening of the town police in the Midnapore district and the introduction of the town police system in certain mufassal stations the retetion as a permanent measure of the special staff for surveillance over criminal tribes the establishment of a detective department at Asansol the provision of a second circle inspector for the Jarnalpur subdivision [...] Railway Police.—As a result of the changes introduced from the 1st January 1927 the whole of the broad gauge line of the Eastern Bengal Raway was placed under the control of the Superintendent Railway Police Seadah and the metre gauge line together with the Bengal portion of the AssaBengal Railway under the Superintedent Railway Police Saidpur. [...] The Assistant Superintendent at Chittgong under the general contrrol of the Superintendent Railway Police Saipur continued to hold direct charge of the police wor! - on the Dacca setion of the Eastern Bengal Railway and the Bengal portion of the Assam-Bengal Railway. [...] On the 4th August the inspector of the Barisal division with the assitance of the district police and the crew of his launch arrested a gang of 10 dacoits in the Barisal river.
