The question of the utilisation of manganek-ore in India has been the subject Of much controversy but it is admitted that owing to the high phosphorus content of the greater portion of the ore available in this country as well as in the Indian coke normally India can never be a large producer of ferro-manganese unless economical electric production becomes possible. [...] No toast cotild be more apprpriate at a gathering of the members of a profession the activities of which are not confined to any particular province or section of the country but extend throughout the length and breadth of the great land the destinies of which are controlled and guided by the power we know as the Government of India. [...] The mining industry is not unmindful of the benefits of a strong sympathetic and faseeing Government and the Government has shown that it is not unmindful of the mining industry ; the recent visit of His Excellency the Viceroy to the Jharia Coal-fields is an earnest of the live interest the Government of India take in us. [...] XX the United States of America similar mammoth blast furnaces using a poorer grade of iron ore but a better quality coke than that of the Kulti charge will cope daily with a charge of 800 tons of iron ore 400 tons of coke and 16o tons of limestone ; such furnaces require 1 680 tons of hot air for the production of 400 tons of pig iron and this output entails the removal of 240 tons of molte [...] It is chiefly the digested data of the material in the files and publications of the Geological Survey of India.
