In consideration of the poverty periodical famines ignorance of the masses and similar other deplorable conditions of the people of India useful knowledge should be imparted to the people on the subjects of health and hygiene evils of intoxicating drinks and drugs agriculture. [...] habits and customs of the people and the great extent of the use of intoxicants which are ruining the nation. [...] From the barber's shop came Jeremy Taylor the most poetical of divines; Sir Richard Arkwright the inventor of the spinning jenny and founder of the cotton manufacture; Lord Tenterden one of the mcst distiguished of Lord Chief Justices; and Turner the greatest among landscape painters. [...] Internal devotional practice for the purification of individual spirit from the influence of mind and matter and elevating it to the consciousness of the Divine Spirit with the guidance and help of a living Satguru (Guide) Who has liberated His spirit from mind and matter is the same. [...] In 1813 an Act of Parliament empowered the Governor General in Council to apply not less than one lac of rupees in each year to the revival and improvement of literatuie and the encouragement of the learned natives of India and for the introduction and promotion of a knowledge of science among the inhabitants of the English territories in India."
